LCI Design Forum
The Lean Design Forum of LCI was formed to -
• Develop evidence for the benefits of investing in design; benefits for customers, designers and all stakeholders, including society.
• Develop means for executing design to increase return on investment.
• Promote beneficial practices in the construction industry.
LCI's role in the Design Forum is to:
· Collect and analyze data from experiments.
· Serve as benchmarking center.
· Promote changes in industry practice.
The investigation will focus on that part of a project between the big phases of a construction project: Plan-Design-Build. The handoffs between these phases limit Design to whatever takes place in and between schematic design and the production of fabrication and installation instructions. The Forum also includes in its scope Project Definition as part of Planning--where project feasibility is assessed and objectives are set. Presentations will be delivered by industry practitioners.
Pre-reading preparation for forum: Visit http://www.leanconstruction.org/files/ and review the paper in the Design Forum folder and also review audio and ppt files from previous meetings.

THE LEAN CONSTRUCTION INSTITUTE (LCI) http://www.leanconstruction.org/ LCI is a non-profit research organization, was founded in August 1997. LCI's purpose is to develop and disseminate new knowledge regarding the management of work in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities. LCI has developed the Lean Project Delivery System© (LPDS), and the Last Planner® System of production control. Lean Construction is a production management-based approach to project delivery - a new way to design and build capital facilities. Lean production management has caused a revolution in manufacturing design, supply and assembly. Applied to construction, Lean changes the way work is done throughout the delivery process. Lean Construction extends from the objectives of a lean production system - maximize value and minimize waste - to specific techniques and applies them in a new project delivery process extending from project definition through design, supply and assembly.
